Happy Boy Magazine Daily Newsletter #3

Section 1 – Introduction, Photography, and Writing From The Author, Editor, and Photographer, at Happy Boy Magazine

Welcome to newsletter #3 at Happy 😄 Boy Magazine on Friday, July 14th, 2017. My name is David Thrift, and I am a photographer, and creator of Happy 😄 Boy Photo Magazine, my personal self published magazine which will feature my outdoor photography around lake areas in East Alabama, and West Georgia. I am currently working on the first issue. This is my daily newsletter where I show you my latest photography, give progress updates on my magazine releases, and show some of my favorite photography and content from other people online that may be of interest. Thank you for joining me today.

Continuing on with my current photo series I’m promoting for my magazine (note: this series will not be in the first issue that I’m currently putting together. It will appear in a later issue and full images will be published instead of these instagram cropped/filtered, and watermarked images)…

Photo Series – Veasey Creek Park and Anderson Park – Friday, June 2nd, 2017 – I previously started promoting this photo series on my instagram @ahbmag page around the middle of June 2017. I am carrying the series over to my newsletters as well for further promotion of my photography. I am sharing five photos from this series today.

This is photo #11 of this series. It’s always a fun time for me when folks show up on boats or ski jets out on the water. I like getting the action shots as they zoom by, or perhaps are just laying on a float enjoying their day.

Photo #14. Veasey Creek Park is my favorite place to go shoot mushroom 🍄 photos after a period of rain. On this day I got some really good shots of lots of different kinds.

Those are all I have to show in this series for now. I will have more to come in the next newsletter. Please check out more of my photography in the previous newsletters found in the Newsletter Archive and free galleries.

Section 2 – Progress Update On My Happy 😄 Boy Photo Magazine First Issue Completion

As of Thursday, July 13th, 2017 I have edited 649 photos covering 383 pages going into this project. The total page count, or completion, or release date is yet unknown. I am working as much as possible to make it happen as soon as I can and hoping to have it finished by October 2017.

What a pretty bird.

Another shark video I think is cool. I have never gone diving (and I don’t want to), but the ocean and it’s creatures are fascinating to me.

Inspiration. I gotta start getting in shape again.

Piglet Squid 🐷x🦑 This piglet squid may look big- but even after it fills itself up with water to float- it’s roughly the size of an avocado 🥑 . Its skin patterns form the adorable shape of a small smiling face and its tuft of tentacles looks like curly locks of hair on its head. Because they live at such deep dark depths, a large light-producing organ (photophore) is located beneath each of its large eyes to help light the way. 💡 Little is known about piglet squid behavior, but taking note of it’s shape, it should come as no surprise that it’s a sluggish swimmer— look at that grin nation 🙂 📸: Mike Schaat #️⃣ #OctoNation #Octopus #Scuba #natgeoyourshot #diver #cephalopod #discoverocean #diving @discoverocean #octopustattoo #pulpo #teamcanon #pigletsquid #kraken #marinelife #NationalGeographic #NatGeo #ocean #blackjaguarwhitetiger @rhino18181 @wahoo_q8 @christylee787 @blackjaguarwhitetiger @feliciaecheverria @lonelywhale #stopsucking #tentacles #oceanconservation #nature #aquarium @oceana @pangeaseed @adriangrenier @discoverychannel

Photo by @mattiasklumofficial for @natgeo Deadly encounter… Not really… People frequently explain to me that I have a dangerous job. Working close to elephants, tigers, polar bears, leopards, lions, sharks, illegal logging operations and venomous snakes such as this beauty. In my line of work doing serious research and reading nature well is key! It'll get my closer to my subjects and it has so far kept me alive! During a @natgeo assignment in the republic of Congo I managed, with kind assistance from Samuel, (my camera assistant at the time) and Zoltan (a great herpethologist), to close in on this beautiful and highly venomous banded water cobra! It resulted in a series of unique images of this rarely seen species. Go to @mattiasklumofficial if you want see some "result-pictures". Photo Of The Month For July 2017

I apologize that I have not kept up with my photo of the month for the past two months, but here is a post to catch up on that. So here is my photo of the month for July 2017. This is a shot of some driftwood resting in shallow water at Goat Rock Dam, on Lake Harding, in Alabama. I took this photo on August 1st, 2017.

A little update on my magazine progress. I have so far edited 600+ photos which cover 350+ pages. I have not yet decided how big my first issue is going to be. It could be a 500 page or more issue. I am still pushing to have it completed and ready for sale by October this year in 2017, however with my busy life, it may get pushed back to my original launch date of January 1st, 2018. We’ll see how it goes. I am currently previewing photos that will appear in a future issue on my instagram page so please follow me there to keep up with my work. Thanks for viewing this photo, and please go to my home page where you will find links to my free photo galleries to view more of my photography.

Snapshots Taken On Saturday, July 1st, 2017

Hello everyone. In attempt to bring my blog back to life,  I am starting a new blog category called “Snapshots”. The idea is to post random photos, maybe up to 5 a day. Just random photos,  and an opportunity for me to spend a little time telling about my photography work and what I’m doing with it. For now you can check the home page for more info.

Today I am at Veasey Creek Park On West Point Lake which is on the Alabama side of the lake on Chambers County. The photo above was snapped at around 2:00 p.m. EST. It’s a beautiful day out. Very hot though. I have gotten some great new photos taken with my Canon SX410is. I’m gonna go wander around for a little while and hopefully get some more good photos.

AHB-MAG Issue #1 Photo Sneak Peek #1

image

I’ve posted a few magazine sneak peeks of photos going in my magazine’s first issue on my instagram, but I thought I would start posting them on my website (blog) for more exposure.

Here are seven photos of a sunbather I photographed at West Point Lake around June 2016 that I’ve put into a collage. The entire image will be a full page image in the magazine. I’ve created two other collages from this set that will go in the magazine as well. The actual image going in the magazine won’t be blurry like this is seen here. This is a photo of the image on display on my tablet.

Thanks for looking.

Gallery #9 – Drive Home On I-85 On Monday, May 15th, 2017

I have another driving gallery for you today. These are photos snapped on my way home from work this morning on the interstate I-85 from exits 58 to 64. I should note these photos do not represent my best photography (which is saved to be put in my magazine issues), and were taken for the simple joy of taking pictures and remembering the drive on a beautiful day. It’s always fun to me to see what kinds of vehicles are traveling around me. I hope you enjoy the pictures. There are 17 photos in this gallery.
